Dumas’ time ticking away?
By: Chris |
Sources tell me that SM Caen Manager Franck Dumas has been given until the winter break to improve, or else he could be sacked. If Caen is still bottom feeders in December, the board will meet and decide his fate.
While Dumas has done great things for the team, including a promotion, this could be for the better. If Caen continues their embarrassing play, they will go down faster than any other team in Ligue 1 history.
This team isn’t going down without a fight. I suggest the board makes a move sooner.
BREAKING NEWS: Gouffran set to move to PSG!
By: Chris |
I have heard from my sources that Yoan Gouffran will be out of Caen during the January transfer window. This is huge news. PSG, who is also not having a walk in the park, will be inheriting a great striker. It seemed for a while that Arsenal would be a lock to get him, but they really seemed to lose interest and that is when PSG creeped in. They were in talks for a while and now I guess it is virtually done. The only thing left to do is to complete it in the winter.
All I have to say is that Caen better be getting ALOT of money.
This is not at all what we needed.
Caen 1 Metz 2
By: Chris |Caen is fading, fading fast. This game was probably more of a must win than any this season. The glimmers of brilliance that we viewed this year seem to be just ripples in the relegation water. This team is in trouble. They are in big trouble.
Caen’s world is going up in flames….and all we can do is sit and watch it.
Gouffran scored and put Caen up early in the 8th minute before Caen gave up a goal 10 minutes from halftime and about halfway through the second half.
So Caen is now officially in dead last. Take it in. 20th place.
Absolute madness.
Here is Gouffran’s goal…the only thing we have going for us at the moment:
Absolute brilliance. Too bad it was in a losing effort.
You cannot win if you cannot score…..0-3 in favor of St. Etienne.
By: Chris |Caen is really playing absolutely horrible against (in my opinion) rather even competition. I dont know if we did not make enough moves in the transfer window, if the team has trouble adjusting to top-level football, or what. 0-3 in favor of St. Etienne.
Caen does what they seem to do best. Miss opportunities that seem golden and allow the opposing team to take advantage early and often. It really seems that when they go down early, this team cannot recover. We were down 2-0 still relatively early in the game. When this happens, you can pretty much write off Caen. It is very sad, but true. Gouffran, Nivet, Compan and Toudic all had scoring opportunities, some of them multiple, but they could not close the deal.
Goals to come later.
Next weekend, Caen plays Metz in an ABSOLUTE must-win match. If Caen loses this game, or draws for that matter, we could be in for a long, tough season.
France RWC 2007/Caen-St. Etienne
By: Chris |
As a blogger of a French soccer club, I want to wish XV de France good luck in the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
France plays Argentina at 3 p.m. EST.

And now, onto Caen. They suit up against St. Etienne next weekend (because of the international break), which will be far from easy. St. Etienne has gotten eight points out of seven matches and currently sits twelfth in the table.
One thing Caen can really be positive about is St. Etienne’s lack of consistent scoring. They have only scored two goals in the past five games. If St. Etienne comes out flat early, Caen has to have their explosive attack that they are more than capable of. If Caen comes out flat as well, we will be lucky to get a draw.
Hopefully Caen will have Gouffran starting for this match. We need all the firepower we can get.
Caen-Sochaux: The Goals
By: Chris |Here is the first goal for Caen by Eluchans:
This is the later go-ahead by Proment:
I find it odd that when we are really playing well, we have flashes of brilliance, but when we are off we look absolutely terrible…
Caen 2 Sochaux 2
By: Chris |Well, Caen gets the point but proves that they cannot hold onto leads if their life depended on it.
Eluchans gets a goal in the 32′ and Proment puts us ahead again in the 65′, but a penalty shot by Birsa in the 73′ makes a 2-2 draw.
Caen really, really needs to learn how to finish games up. A team that is hurting like Sochaux is not one to lose to, especially when you have the lead twice. Hengbart came in two minutes before the yellow that cost the goal that drew the game. This is especially frustrating because he came in to relieve Proment.
Caen has taken four points from five games and is currently in 16th place in Ligue 1.

Gouffran was not in the lineup today, but we are safe with him, as he is a member of Caen until at least the January transfer window. PSG showed a large interest in him and Arsenal’s interest never went away, but he is still a member of Caen.
I will post some videos of the goals once they are available.

Also, congratulations to Vincent Planté, who was named by Caen’s website as the Player of the Month for August.
No thank you, I think I’ll just wear my undershirt.
By: Chris |I have been waiting for Caen to make their new kits available for sale since before the season started. The kits are very nice, even though they are a bit cluttered in sponsorship. Finally, I check and they are selling them…….for 65€ . 65 €?!?!?!?!?!? Thats $88.63 USD. That, with how much it costs to ship to the United States (I don’t know the exact cost, but from buying other kits from Europe, it is about $20-25) is well over $100.

I have to ask, are you kidding me? $110 for a kit? Come on now. I once bought a London Wasps kit for $105 but rugby kits are made much stronger than footie kits. The rugby kit I have is equivalent to about 3 polo shirts, while most soccer kits are about as strong as one to two t-shirts. Come on Caen, don’t you think that is a bit pricey?
According to Olympique Lyonnais’ site, their kit costs 70€ and RC Lens’ kit cost 69.50€, which are even more outrageous. Ligue 1 needs to re-work their prices. This is ridiculous
If you still want to buy a kit, be my guest. You can order it on their online store.
Recent Tragic World Soccer Developments/Caen’s “Rain Date”
By: Chris |

First off, and more importantly than any match I could ever talk about, two soccer players died this week. By now, everyone has heard the tragic story of Antonio Puerta of Sevilla and has probably seen the painful video. Another soccer player, Zambian International Chaswe Nsofwa died during practice with his team Hapoel Beersheva, an Israeli Second Division team. It is not known why he collapsed, as we know Puerta died of a heart ailment, but it was about 100 degrees on the pitch.
It really makes you think of the fragility of life and how short we really have on this earth. Regardless of your beliefs, we don’t have much time and you have to be thankful for every day that you wake up. These players are in some of the best physical shape in the world, and still they are human, like you or I. Absolutely tragic. Rest in peace my brothers. You are in God’s arms now.
I apologize for starting on such a somber note, but it absolutely had to be addressed, as many of the other bloggers have done.

Caen did not play their previously scheduled match against RC Lens today because of Lens’ tie on Thursday with BSC Young Boys of Switzerland. They will play again on September 1 against Sochaux. Sochaux is one of the few teams that are playing worse than Caen at the moment, having taken only two points from six games. Caen has three points from four games, also having a game postponed against Toulouse earlier in the season because of their Champions’ League tie against Liverpool.

Caen can really get back into the swing of things with a victory against Les Lionceaux. Les Malherbistes absolutely have to take advantage of their opportunities against more sub-par clubs like they have for the next few weeks. Caen absolutely have to take points from most of these games.
Month of September
Sochaux
St. Etienne
Metz
Month of October
Lorient
Lille
Monaco
The only game I see as being extremely hard/impossible for Caen is Monaco. all of those other teams Caen can at least draw. These next 2 months will be very telling for the squad in how they will be in the long term. Caen may have gotten off to a slow start, but our boys aren’t going down without one hell of a fight.
Allez!
Who will be Caen’s next mascot?
By: Chris |Stade Malherbe de Caen is compiling a vote for their new mascot. The voting goes until the end of September and you have a choice between three mascots.
The “Destrier,” a French War Horse
A Viking. (Caen’s old logo was a Viking warship.)
Francois de Malherbe, a poet who was born in Caen which the stadium and club are named after.
I still am not sure who I am voting for, but you can vote by clicking “Votez!” on the top of the screen and filling out your information and clicking the bubble next to your choice. You can vote by going here.
