Caen’s Website interviews Svensson

By: Chris | July 20th, 2007

Swedish International, former Glasgow Rangers and new defender for Les Malherbistes, Karl Svensson, has been interviewed by Caen’s website. You can read the full article by clicking here (in French). I am going to put an English translation here, because you won’t find it anywhere else. My French understanding still isnt great (using Babelfish for some stuff), so bear with me.

SM Caen: How is your French?
Karl Svensson: It is getting better and better, but it will take time. I started to take courses Monday. I have already tried to speak it with my teammates. I know the football terms, but English is still easier for me.

SMC:Were you surprised by the toughness of the training?
KS: No, we have tough training sessions where we work hard on the physical aspects of the game, but that is normal at this time of the year. In Sweden, our training lasts three months. In France, it is six weeks, so it is much more intense. I really have appreciated the past two weeks.

SMC:Except the rain….
KS:Yes, except the rain, but I am used to it. Being in Scotland and then being in Normandy is not that much of a problem, but as a soccer player, I prefer the sun.

SMC: Did you turn the Scottish page?
KS: Yeah, it’s turned. I played there for a year, but it became complicated when Le Guen left. I am with another club now, and I hope that this team will do beautiful things.

SMC:Do you keep in contact with the players from Rangers?
KS:Yes, some of the players. I am more concerned with taking the experience I had over there and bringing it here to make things better.

SMC:What do you think of the first three friendlies?
KS:Well, everyone can play and that was positive. It was especially positive that we did not have any injuries. The closer we get to the beginning of the season, the more important these matches will become, but we always want to win.

SMC:Compared to what you see, what do you think of the team?
KS:The team seems to play technically, play beautifully and are very talented.

SMC:What do you think of this play on a technical level?
KS: I have arrived in one of the best leagues in Europe. All of the games are going to be difficult, with strong competition.

SMC:This Saturday, you will have the opportunity to rub elbows with a staple of Ligue 1. A good test….
KS:I do not know this team, but I imagine that they are good. We will be able to learn some additional lessons. On a purely personal basis, I just need to play and find a feeling on the pitch. The best ones will win.

SMC:How do you feel about the group environment?
KS:It is very good. The environment is excellent. Even if I do not understand everything, I truly enjoy being here.

I did the best I could with that translation. It isn’t exact, but you get the idea.
