Transfer Roundup

By: Chris | July 11th, 2007

Karl SvenssonNewly promoted SM Caen have made quite a few moves this summer, none as big as Karl Svensson, the former Rangers fullback and current Swedish International; Svensson could make a huge impact in making sure Caen is able to stay afloat.

Caen also have the following players coming in:

Adnane (Cherbourg)
Boucansaud (Troyes)
Eluchans (Independiente)
R.Gomis (Laval)
Nivet (Troyes)
Thébaux (Dijon)

Nivet could be an interesting addition. The 30 year old, signed to a 3-year contract has 32 career goals (28 of them with Troyes from ‘02-’07).

The Gouffran saga continues as it looks like he will be headed to Arsenal, according to various reports. Though, if he does sign (which would be absolutely terrible), it is working out so that he will spend this season at Caen.

To make matters worse for Les Malherbistes, the front office announced that Caen is done making any more additions to the team for the remainder of the transfer window. They are pleased with what they have gotten and are ready to begin the campaign with the talent they have.

Though many fans are confident (or at least hopeful) that Caen will stay up, it seems odd that with a month and a half before the end of the transfer window, the front office makes a rash decision like this. Let’s hope it doesn’t end up hurting Caen.

Welcome from the Lyon Offside! I look forward to seeing how your season unfolds and if you guys can stay up in L1. :)

I’m hoping Gouffran stays for another year, both for Caen’s sake and his own. I don’t think he’s ready for Arsenal just yet.

    Hey Trent and Inara!

Thanks for the welcome! I really hope Caen stays up. Where I live, it is hard to watch French soccer as it is; I started to follow Caen the last time they were in Ligue 1, but when they were relegated, it was impossible.

I hope this is the beginning of something lengthy….and impressive.

    Cheers to a good year!

Welcome welcome. Nice to see a ‘minnow’ making noise here at the offside. (Outside of the MLS, of course)

Have Caen do me a favor this season – knock Jean-Michel Aulas down a few pegs if you can? That’d be peaches.

If we beat OL, that would make my life.

Hey Chris, this is your boss speaking. Bwahahaha. Kind of. I write for the Ligue 1 Offside. Glad you’re with us. Mis à part tout ça, parles-tu français?

Welcome Chris. As the other Chris said, it’s great to have some coverage from a small club’s perspective! :-)

Sam, I speak French a little bit. I am minoring in it. The minor starts in the fall. I took French 1 senior year of high school, so I can trudge through press releases. In about a years time, (that includes a week long trip to France) I plan to be able to have conversations about most anything.

    Thanks Jan!

Gouffran is being linked to Lyon, and that is always good. Caen may be able to stay up and do a little but better then the las time they were in Ligue 1. Im looking at Valenciennes and Le Mans to go down actually, so with one spot left Caen may just make it.

Why would Lyon be good? That sounds like a worse case scenario than leaving for Arsenal. I dont think Lyon will do it. There are many clubs interested in him and Lyon is not one that I have heard about. In the end, I think it will be Arsenal….this transfer window or not.
